History
Little Guy Patents was developed out of necessity. As a small business owner whose company specializes in Design and Development of new products in a rapidly changing market, we decided that the most cost effective method for us to protect our ideas, while still being able to present them to potential customers, clients, and funding agents, was to patent the ideas. The first couple of patents, we paid a law firm to complete them for us. It cost our company upwards of $6000 for each preliminary patent, and over $10,000 for each final patent. The timeline to complete the process also lagged the pace at which our designers were coming up with new ideas. The process of protecting our ideas was killing us in our pocketbooks, and causing serous delays in our Research and Development cycle.
As a solution, we decided to begin writing our own patents. We decided that it would be much more cost effective to write our own patents, protect all of our rapidly forming ideas and new products. Those products that turned out to be big sellers, we could always go back and improve upon the existing patent, or create a new patent on any advancements that were made since the last.
After writing our own patents, we wondered if there were other small businesses that face the same challenges. And that is how Little Guy Patents was started.
